* Tapas Wednesday (Seasonal) for Summer Concerts-on-the Square
Downtown Grocery offers "Tapas Wednesday" from 5-7 PM each Wednesday during the Summer Concerts-on-the-Square on the 400 Block in Downtown Wausau. "Tapas Wednesday" features a variety of traditional Spanish-style appetizers or finger foods, called Tapas, sold by the pound in single-serving Tapas-tubs (plastic containers with lid.) Two menus will rotate during season. Tapas originated in Spain based on the following tale:

--- A long time ago, the King of Spain was enjoying a beverage in a bar when a bee flew into his glass. He was not pleased and decreed all glasses be protected with a small plate. One resourceful entrepreneur served a morsel of simple food, such as a slice of ham or a dumpling, on top of the plate to cover the glass. Tapa derived the verb tapar, "to cover". Customers enjoyed the idea and thus the "Tapas" began. Tapas are often served in establishments often called a Tapas Bar. Downtown Grocery
captures the spirit of the Tapas with our "Tapas Wednesday" and no bees will be attending. [Note: Tale derived from many sources.]
